Mission San Diego de Alcalá (Mission Basilica)

Mission San Diego de Alcalá was founded on July 16, 1769 by Father Junípero Serra and was the first Franciscan mission established in Alta California. The original mission near the Presidio was attacked and rebuilt multiple times during the 18th and 19th centuries. Today it operates as Mission Basilica San Diego de Alcalá, includes a museum with mission-era artifacts, and serves as an active parish and historic landmark.
