Staats Model School

The Staats Model School, located in Pretoria, Gauteng Province, South Africa, has a rich history dating back to its establishment in 1893 as a teacher training institution. Designed by architect Sytze Wierda in the Neo Dutch Renaissance style, the building was completed in 1896 and has served various educational purposes over the years. Notably, during the Anglo-Boer War, it was repurposed as a hospital and prison, famously associated with Winston Churchill's escape. The school has housed several educational institutions, including Pretoria High School and Hamilton Primary School, and was declared a national monument in 1960, making it a significant site for both tourists and researchers interested in South African history and architecture.
