The Showbox downtown music venue

The Showbox at the Pike Place Market area opened as a theater in 1939 and has operated for decades as a central downtown Seattle music venue. It has hosted countless local and national rock, punk, and alternative acts and figures prominently in accounts of Seattle's live-music history. In 2018–2019 the building became the focus of preservation and redevelopment debates that highlighted the venue's cultural importance.
