Boylston Market

Boylston Market, a historic 19th-century building in Boston, was designed by architect Charles Bulfinch and served as a vibrant marketplace and performance space from 1810 until its demolition in 1887. Located at the intersection of Boylston and Washington Streets, the market featured a three-story structure with stalls for provisions, spacious rooms, and a grand hall that hosted various events, including concerts and anti-slavery conventions. Notable early tenants included the Linnaean Society and the Handel and Haydn Society. The market was named in honor of philanthropist Ward Nicholas Boylston and played a significant role in Boston's cultural and social history before being replaced by the Boylston Building.
