Ismailiyya Palace

The Ismailiyya Palace, located on Istiglaliyyat Street in Baku, Azerbaijan, is a stunning historical building designed by Polish architect Józef Płoszko. Constructed between 1908 and 1913 for the Muslim Charity Society, it was commissioned by millionaire Musa Naghiyev in memory of his son Ismayil. The palace showcases Venetian Gothic architecture and features inscriptions promoting the value of work and knowledge. Initially intended to host a mosque and garden, the area evolved into a bustling market known as Devil's Market before the palace's construction. Today, it serves as the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan and has hosted significant events, including the First International Congress of the World in 1926.
