Houston Astrodome - first domed multi-purpose stadium

The Houston Astrodome, opened in 1965 at NRG Park, was the world's first multi-purpose domed sports stadium. It was the first major venue to install artificial turf (marketed as 'AstroTurf') in 1966 and served as home to the Houston Astros (MLB) and Houston Oilers (NFL) in its early decades. The Astrodome was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2014.
