Loma Prieta earthquake during the 1989 World Series

The Loma Prieta earthquake struck on October 17, 1989, minutes before Game 3 of the 1989 World Series scheduled at Candlestick Park, causing major disruptions and prompting a 10-day postponement of the series. Candlestick Park at the time was the San Francisco Giants' home ballpark and also hosted other large events. The quake caused significant regional damage and led Major League Baseball to suspend the series between the San Francisco Giants and the Oakland Athletics.
