Sweet Sulphur Springs

Sweet Sulphur Springs, once a thriving health resort and hotel near Velpen, Indiana, operated from the 1890s until a devastating fire in 1914. Renowned for its sulphur springs, believed to have medicinal properties, it attracted visitors from cities like Louisville and St. Louis. The hotel featured various amenities, including a pool, dining hall, and recreational facilities, accommodating up to 100 guests. Despite attempts to revive the resort in the 1920s with plans for a new hotel and a proposed town called 'Log City', the area fell into abandonment by the late 1950s, leaving behind a rich history of wellness tourism and community gatherings.
