The Royal Oak, established in 1853 by John Herbert in Toodyay, Western Australia, was a significant inn known for its size and offerings, including accommodation, food, and various goods. It played a central role in the community, hosting public meetings and events such as the formation of the Agricultural and Horticultural Society, which influenced local affairs. The inn was managed by Charlotte Herbert, who was instrumental in its success, especially during her husband's decline due to mental health issues. The Royal Oak closed in 1860 due to legal complications but remained a family residence for years.
