Back Lane drill hall, Newtown

The Back Lane drill hall, located in Newtown, Wales, is a historic military installation completed in 1897. Originally serving as the headquarters for the 5th Volunteer Battalion, The South Wales Borderers, it played a significant role during World War I, being the mobilization point for troops heading to Gallipoli and the Western Front. After World War II, it transitioned to serve the 636th Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment and later became part of the 446th (Royal Welch) Airborne Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment. Today, the drill hall is decommissioned and hosts local community events, including amateur dramatics, making it a unique site for visitors interested in military history and community culture.
