West End neighborhood cleared during urban renewal

Boston's West End was a dense, mixed-income neighborhood that was largely demolished between 1958 and the early 1960s under an urban renewal program overseen by the Boston Redevelopment Authority. Thousands of residents were displaced and much of the neighborhood's 19th-century housing was replaced by high-rise apartments and commercial development such as Charles River Park.
