Hersch Tower

Hersch Tower is a historic Art Deco skyscraper located in midtown Elizabeth, New Jersey. Completed in 1931 during the Great Depression, this 14-story building features a striking façade of brick, marble, and nickel, designed by architects Nathan Myers and Joseph Shanley. Notably, it included an innovative vacuum system and a unique fire escape mechanism. After undergoing renovations in the 1970s and a change in ownership in 1990, Hersch Tower is now part of the Mid-Town Historic District, which includes other notable structures. Recent plans aim to convert several floors into residential units while maintaining commercial spaces on the ground floor, enhancing its role in the community with a proposed rooftop lounge.
