Fort Defiance (Lenoir, North Carolina)

Fort Defiance is a historic plantation house near Lenoir, North Carolina, built between 1788 and 1792. This two-story frame structure, originally known as Fort Isaacs, served as a military post during the Revolutionary War. It was home to General William Lenoir and features an additional wing added in 1823. Now a museum operated by the Caldwell County Historical Society since 1965, Fort Defiance was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970. The site also holds historical significance as the wedding venue of politician George Washington Hayes in 1842.
