Asian Art Museum - housed in the historic former Main Library building

The Asian Art Museum relocated in 2003 to the former San Francisco Main Library building (completed in 1917), a Beaux-Arts structure in the Civic Center. The museum’s collections comprise thousands of works spanning millennia and are considered among the largest public collections of Asian art in the United States. The building’s reuse as a museum preserved a prominent civic landmark and created a major cultural anchor in downtown San Francisco.
