I.O.O.F. and Barker Buildings

The I.O.O.F. and Barker Buildings were historic commercial structures in downtown Mount Vernon, Indiana, showcasing Victorian architecture with notable Italianate and Romanesque Revival elements. Built in the late 19th century, the I.O.O.F. Building featured a prominent tower and expansive glass front, while the smaller Barker Building housed local attorneys. Both buildings played significant roles in the community, particularly as the home of the People's Bank and Trust Company. Despite their historical significance and inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places, they were demolished in the 1990s to make way for a new bank building. Today, the site is part of the Mount Vernon Downtown Historic District, although the original buildings are no longer standing.
