Laurel Hill Cemetery (Victorian cemetery and ghost lore)

Laurel Hill Cemetery was founded in 1836 and was one of the earliest rural garden cemeteries in the United States; its landscape was designed under the direction of John Notman. The cemetery is a National Historic Landmark that contains the graves of numerous notable Philadelphians, including Civil War officers and civic leaders. Over time the site has accumulated local ghost stories and folklore about nocturnal sightings, which are presented by tour operators and local authors as popular legend rather than documented fact.
