Smith Tower's manual elevator and 35th-floor observatory

Completed in 1914, Smith Tower was one of the tallest buildings on the West Coast and retains a manually operated brass elevator that is sometimes staffed by an elevator operator. The building's 35th-floor observatory and the adjacent historic 'Chinese Room' survive as a city-viewing space and event venue, offering one of Seattle's lesser-known high-elevation viewing experiences. The observatory and historic interiors reflect the building's early-20th-century luxury design.
