Garden Theater Block

The Garden Theater Block, located at 353-367 Main Street in Greenfield, Massachusetts, is a historic commercial block and the city's largest theatrical venue, completed in 1929. This Colonial Revival structure features an atmospheric garden theater design, with a richly decorated interior that includes garden-themed carpeting, murals by Frederick Marshall, and a ceiling designed to simulate a starry night. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983, the theater has a storied past, originally serving both film and live performances before transitioning solely to cinema. After closing in 1999, it underwent changes and was divided into smaller theaters, with ongoing rehabilitation efforts aimed at preserving its unique charm.
