Rich Neck Farm

Rich Neck Farm, also known as Richneck Plantation, is a historic site located near Surry, Virginia, notable for its well-preserved pre-Georgian architecture and its connection to the Ruffin family, prominent figures in Virginia's history. Built around 1802, the plantation featured a unique brick dwelling with a gambrel roof and a collection of significant outbuildings. The Ruffins played a vital role in the social and agricultural development of the region, particularly Edmund Ruffin, who is recognized as a pioneer in agronomy. Although the site was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, it faced challenges over the years, including a fire that destroyed the main house in 2012. Today, the remnants of Rich Neck Farm serve as a poignant reminder of Virginia's rich historical tapestry.
