Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum

The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum was built in 1901 to house Isabella Gardner's personal art collection in a Venetian-style palazzo. On March 18, 1990, 13 works of art were stolen in one of the largest unsolved art heists in U.S. history, including pieces attributed to Vermeer and Rembrandt. The museum preserves the original arrangement of the collection and continues to display the empty frames of the missing works.
