Perseverance Tavern

The Perseverance Tavern, established in 1808 by Johannes Blesser, is the oldest pub in South Africa, located in Cape Town. Known as 'The Percy' or 'Persies', it has a rich history tied to Cape Town's role as a major port during the age of sea trade between Europe and Asia. The tavern was owned by Ohlsson’s Breweries for several decades before being sold in 1956. After closing due to the COVID-19 pandemic in July 2020, it reopened under new ownership in February 2021, continuing its legacy as a historic gathering place.
