Bishop's Palace (Galveston, Texas)

The Bishop's Palace, also known as Gresham's Castle, is a stunning Victorian-style mansion located in Galveston, Texas. Designed by architect Nicholas J. Clayton and completed in 1892, this 19,082 square foot house features intricate medieval and Renaissance details, including four towering spires and custom-cut Texas stones. Originally built for lawyer Walter Gresham and his family, the mansion served as a refuge during the devastating hurricane of 1900. Acquired by the Roman Catholic Diocese in 1923, it was later opened for public tours in 1963. The Galveston Historical Foundation now maintains the property, which is a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
