Seattle Underground (buried storefronts) - Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park (Seattle Unit)

The Seattle Underground consists of cellar-level storefronts and passages that remained at the original street level after the June 6, 1889 Great Seattle Fire and subsequent raising of city streets. Portions of these buried commercial spaces are preserved and interpreted at the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park Seattle Unit. The underground structures are tangible remnants of the late 19th-century rebuilding and street-raising efforts in Pioneer Square.
