Ilojo Bar

Ilojo Bar, also known as Olaiya House, is a historic building located near Tinubu Square in Lagos Island, Nigeria. Originally built in 1855, it served as a bar and restaurant and was associated with the Fernandez family, who employed returning ex-slaves from Brazil and Cuba. The building consists of two halves, with the Ilojo Bar portion remodeled in the early 1900s. It was renamed in 1933 by Alfred Omolana Olaiya after his hometown. Declared a national monument in 1956, the bar was controversially demolished in 2016, and the site is now managed by the Lagos State Government, making it a point of interest for tourists and researchers alike.
