Bicksler Block

The Bicksler Block is a historic building in Salem, Iowa, constructed in 1886 by John Bicksler. This two-story brick structure showcases a blend of Romanesque Revival and Italianate architectural styles. Built after a significant fire that affected the town, it has served various purposes over the years, including housing a bank and the local post office until 1967. The building has also accommodated numerous businesses, such as clothing stores and a restaurant, while the second floor was used for offices, including a dentist's practice. Acquired by the American Legion in 1950, the Bicksler Block was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2010, making it a notable site for both tourists and researchers interested in local history.
