The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History was founded by Dr. Charles H. Wright in 1965 to collect and interpret African American history and culture. Over decades it has grown into one of the largest institutions dedicated to African American history, hosting permanent and rotating exhibits, archives, and educational programs. The museum is located in its dedicated building on East Warren Avenue in Detroit.
