Richard L. Kitchens Post No. 41

The Richard L. Kitchens Post No. 41, located at 409 Porter Street in Helena, Arkansas, is a historic American Legion hall built in 1922. Notably designed by a local Legionnaire, it is recognized as the first American Legion hall referred to as a 'hut' and is the oldest Legion building in the city. Constructed from donated materials, including cypress logs, the hall was built by volunteers under the supervision of a local contractor. An addition was made in 1949, enhancing its historical significance. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976, making it a point of interest for both tourists and researchers exploring American history and community heritage.
