Herron Gymnasium

Herron Gymnasium, originally built in 1897 at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, was the university's first gymnasium and a significant recreational center until 1932. Named after alumnus John W. Herron, it transitioned to a women's gym after the construction of a male-only facility. The building, notable for its Romanesque revival architecture, served various purposes over the years, including as Navy barracks during World War II. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979 but was demolished in 1986, replaced by a parking lot. The gym's history reflects the evolution of recreational facilities at the university and its role in the development of Miami's athletic identity.
