Musée de l'atelier Rosa Bonheur

The Musée de l'atelier Rosa Bonheur, located in the picturesque Château de By near Fontainebleau Forest, is a biographical museum dedicated to the renowned French animal painter Rosa Bonheur. Established in 1859 when Bonheur made the château her home and studio, the museum showcases artifacts from her life, including a unique Native American costume gifted by Buffalo Bill. After a refurbishment, it reopened in 2018 under the care of Katherine Brault, who also introduced a bed and breakfast project. Visitors can explore the unchanged interiors that reflect Bonheur's legacy and the history of the building, which has been recognized as a site of historical significance.
