William Pitt Union

The William Pitt Union, originally built as the Hotel Schenley in 1898, is a historic student union at the University of Pittsburgh, recognized as a Pennsylvania and Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation Historic Landmark. Designed in the Beaux-Arts style, it was once a luxurious hotel frequented by notable figures including U.S. Presidents and celebrities. After being acquired by the university in 1956, it underwent significant renovations to serve as a student union and dormitory. The building has hosted important events, including a luncheon for Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev in 1959. Today, it remains a central hub for student activities and a testament to Pittsburgh's rich cultural history.
