Chepauk Palace

Chepauk Palace, located in Chennai, India, served as the official residence of the Nawab of Arcot from 1768 to 1855. Built in the Indo-Saracenic architectural style, it features intricate carvings, wide arches, and red brick walls. The palace was constructed by engineer Paul Benfield and is notable for its two main blocks: Kalas Mahal, the Nawab's residence, and Humayun Mahal, which underwent significant renovations in the late 19th century. Following the abolition of the Carnatic principality, the palace was auctioned and repurposed for government use. Despite facing structural challenges and a devastating fire in recent years, restoration efforts are underway, making it a point of interest for both tourists and researchers exploring Chennai's rich history and architecture.
