Hatfield Safe House

The Hatfield Safe House, also known as Simpsonville Mill Miller's House, is a historic site located in Columbia, Maryland. This three-story wood-framed house, built on a stone foundation in 1755, served as a safe haven on the Underground Railroad. The original structure was lost to fire, but a new frame building was constructed on the same foundation. The house has a rich history, having been owned by notable figures such as William Braysahaw and county commissioner William W. Inglehardt. Visitors can explore the surrounding 9-acre parcel, which was once home to chicken coops in the late 1920s, and appreciate its significance within the Simpsonville Historic District.
