The estate features a wooden frame house built around 1845, which has withstood the test of time, including being shelled during the Civil War. Over the years, Kilkenny has changed hands multiple times, serving various purposes, including a summer fishing retreat for a consortium known as the Kilkenny Club. The estate was restored in the 1930s after being acquired by Henry Ford.
