Washington State Capitol Conservatory

The Washington State Capitol Conservatory was a historic greenhouse located on the grounds of the Washington State Capitol in Olympia, Washington. Built in 1939 as part of a Works Project Administration initiative, it was designed by architect Joseph Wohleb and funded with $25,000. The conservatory was a vibrant attraction, growing over 70,000 flowers and plants annually during the 1950s, contributing to the beauty of the Capitol gardens. However, due to significant foundation damage and safety concerns, it was closed in 2008 and ultimately demolished between 2020 and 2021. Despite its closure, the conservatory played a role in the community, including temporarily housing the Chief Shelton Story Pole after its removal in 2010.
