Coit Tower and Lillie Hitchcock Coit

Coit Tower was funded by a bequest from Lillie Hitchcock Coit and completed in 1933 atop Telegraph Hill as a city landmark. The tower interior contains a series of New Deal-era murals painted under the Public Works of Art Project that depict scenes of California life and industry in the early 1930s. Coit's bequest and the tower's construction are well-documented elements of San Francisco civic history.
