Jesse Lee Home for Children

The Jesse Lee Home for Children, established in 1926 in Seward, Alaska, served as a refuge for displaced children, primarily from Native Alaskan communities. Operated by the United Methodist Church, it became a significant site during its history, notably for its connection to the design of the Alaskan state flag by resident Benny Benson. The home featured multiple buildings, including dormitories and classrooms, and played a role in the community until it was severely damaged by a 1964 earthquake. Although efforts were made to restore the site for educational purposes, it ultimately faced demolition in 2020. Today, it stands as a historical landmark, reflecting the challenges and resilience of the Alaskan community.
