New Bedford Cinema

The New Bedford Cinema, located on Eglinton Street in the Gorbals area of Glasgow, Scotland, is a remarkable example of Art Deco architecture. Originally built as the Eglinton Street United Secession Church in 1825, it was transformed into a cinema in 1921 after the church's closure. The original cinema was destroyed by fire in 1932, leading to the construction of the New Bedford Cinema, which opened on Boxing Day of the same year. After operating as a cinema until 1973, it was repurposed as a bingo hall and later underwent a significant restoration to become the Carling Academy in 2003, now known as the O2 Academy Glasgow. This venue continues to host concerts and events, making it a vibrant part of Glasgow's cultural scene.
