Meat Research Institute

The Meat Research Institute, established in 1967 in Lower Langford, North Somerset, was created to support the British meat industry through dedicated research. Officially opened by the Queen in 1968, it was strategically located next to a veterinary school to enhance collaboration. The institute was funded through a levy on livestock and became part of the Institute of Food Research in 1985. However, government funding ceased in 1990, leading to its closure. The site remains significant for its historical contributions to meat research and its proximity to veterinary science.
