Carliol House

Carliol House is a historic Grade II listed building located in the heart of Newcastle upon Tyne, notable for its striking Art Deco architecture. Constructed between 1924 and 1927, it originally served as the headquarters for the North Eastern Electric Supply Company. The building features a beautifully detailed façade made of Portland stone and includes a tribute to Joseph Swan, a pioneer of the incandescent light bulb. Although much of the interior has been demolished as part of a redevelopment project, the impressive 130-meter façade remains intact. This redevelopment, known as Pilgrim's Quarter, is set to transform the area and will eventually house HM Revenue and Customs, relocating 9,000 staff by 2027. Carliol House stands as a testament to the city's architectural heritage and ongoing urban evolution.
