Horry-Guignard House

The Horry-Guignard House, located in Columbia, South Carolina, is a historic home built before 1813, showcasing late Federal style architecture. Notable for its unique construction history, the house was expanded in 1813 by sawing it in half and widening the main hall. Originally built by Revolutionary War Colonel Peter Horry, it later belonged to John Gabriel Guignard, who contributed to the city's early design. An urban legend claims that the house was spared during the Civil War due to a dinner invitation from a slave named Dilcie to General Sherman. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1971 and is currently being restored as part of the University of South Carolina School of Law complex.
