Gas Works Park buried industrial remains

Gas Works Park is the site of the former Seattle Gas Light Company coal gasification plant that operated from 1906 to 1956. During demolition, park creation, and environmental remediation, buried foundations, former process piping, coal tar deposits, and other subsurface industrial features were documented and removed or contained. Several above-ground components were preserved as park art, while remediation records and archaeological assessments document the site's buried industrial infrastructure. The site remains a documented example of buried industrial remains converted to public open space.
