Sedgeley

Sedgeley was a historic mansion designed by architect Benjamin Henry Latrobe, built between 1799 and 1802 on the banks of the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia. It was notable for being the first Gothic Revival style house in America, featuring distinctive architectural elements such as a hip roof, dormers, and scalloped bargeboards. Originally owned by wealthy merchant William Cramond, the mansion changed hands several times before falling into disrepair and being acquired by the city of Philadelphia in 1857. Although the mansion was demolished, the surviving Porter's House, also designed by Latrobe, remains a significant historical structure and currently serves as office space for Outward Bound. The site is now part of Fairmount Park, offering visitors a glimpse into Philadelphia's architectural history.
