Greek Public Tobacco Factory

The Greek Public Tobacco Factory, located in Kolonos, Athens, was established in the early 20th century to manage the booming tobacco industry, which became a crucial part of Greece's economy. Built in 1930, the factory featured modern architecture with a focus on ventilation and lighting, housing various tobacco processing and packaging companies. At its peak, it employed around 3,000 workers and served as a hub for cigarette and cigar production. The factory's significance diminished with the rise of private enterprises, and it eventually ceased operations in 1997. Today, it stands as a historical site reflecting Greece's rich tobacco heritage.
