Exchange Building (Newark, Delaware)

The Exchange Building, also known as Center Building, is a historic commercial structure in Newark, Delaware, built in 1880. This three-story building showcases a distinctive Second Empire architectural style with a deep mansard roof. Notably, it houses a prison cell from around 1905 in its basement, a remnant of its past when a courthouse was situated here. The building has been home to a barber shop for over a century and currently features Klondike Kate's restaurant on the ground floor. It was recognized for its historical significance and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982, making it an intriguing stop for tourists and researchers alike.
