The Black Friar, Blackfriars

The Black Friar is a historic Grade II* listed pub located on Queen Victoria Street in Blackfriars, London. Established around 1875 on the site of a medieval Dominican friary, it underwent significant remodeling in 1905 by architect Herbert Fuller-Clark. The pub features intricate internal decorations crafted by sculptors Frederick T. Callcott and Henry Poole. Nearly demolished in the 1960s, it was saved thanks to a campaign led by poet Sir John Betjeman. Today, it is recognized on the Campaign for Real Ale's National Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors, making it a must-visit for tourists and researchers interested in London's architectural and cultural heritage.
