Birmingham Market Hall

Birmingham Market Hall, operational from 1835 until its destruction in 1940, was a significant municipal market located in the Bull Ring area of Birmingham, England. Designed by architect Charles Edge, the grand structure featured a Classical style façade with Doric columns and housed 600 market stalls. It played a crucial role in the urban food supply, particularly promoting fish consumption in the West Midlands. The hall was equipped with gas lighting and featured an ornate bronze fountain at its center. Despite being bombed during World War II, the building's shell remained until its demolition in the 1960s, marking an important chapter in Birmingham's market history.
