Japanese Tea Garden (Golden Gate Park)

The Japanese Tea Garden was created for the 1894 California Midwinter International Exposition and is commonly cited as the oldest public Japanese garden in the United States. The site includes traditional features such as a drum bridge, teahouse structures, lanterns, and stonework reflecting late-19th and early-20th-century Japanese garden design adapted for an American urban park. The garden has been maintained and altered over time by city parks staff and private donors while remaining a continuous public attraction in Golden Gate Park.
