Mains Hall

Mains Hall, located in Singleton, Lancashire, is a historic Grade II listed building dating back to the 16th century, with roots tracing to an earlier manor house from the 11th century. This remarkable structure has undergone several renovations, particularly in the 17th and 18th centuries, and now operates as a hotel. Visitors can admire its unique architecture, featuring rendered brick, a slate roof, and remnants of original timberwork. Notably, George IV is said to have visited, and the manor served as a refuge for Cardinal Allen during the Reformation. The property was owned by the Hesketh family for about 300 years and includes a fascinating 18th-century dovecote nearby. A fire in 2002 uncovered the original wattle and daub construction, along with a hidden chapel, adding to its historical intrigue.
