St. Joseph's Convent and School

St. Joseph's Convent and School, located in Lowell, Massachusetts, is a historic site established in 1868 to serve the French-Canadian Catholic community. The school, built in 1883, features Italianate architecture, while the convent, constructed in 1911, showcases Colonial Revival style. Initially providing French-language education, the school was staffed by the Grey Nuns of the Cross and expanded due to increasing enrollment. Although the school closed in 1993 due to declining numbers, the buildings were rehabilitated and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002, making it a significant landmark for visitors interested in local history and architecture.
