De Tjolomadoe

De Tjolomadoe, originally known as the Colomadu sugar factory, is a historic site located in Central Java, Indonesia, approximately 12.7 km from Surakarta and 58.1 km from Yogyakarta. Established in 1862 by Mangkunegara IV with the help of a German architect, the factory was designed to produce sugar from local sugar cane. It underwent significant renovations in 1928 and continued operations until 1998 when it was taken over by the Indonesian government. After years of neglect, the factory was revitalized and reopened in 2018 as a museum, featuring a concert hall, café, and retail spaces, making it an intriguing destination for tourists and researchers interested in industrial heritage and local history.
